Prayer To Know One's Vocation
Lord, my God and my loving Father,
you have made me to know you,
to love you, to serve you,
and thereby to find and to fulfill my deepest longings.
I know that you are in all things,
and that every path can lead me to you.
But of them all,
there is one especially by which you want me to come to you.
Since I will do what you want of me,
I pray you,
send your Holy Spirit to me:
into my mind,
to show me what you want of me;
into my heart,
to give me the determination to do it,
and to do it with all my love,
with all my mind,
and with all of my strength right to the end.
Jesus, I trust in you.
Amen

The Priesthood: As Important Today as Ever
"Every high priest is taken from among men and made their representative before God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins." (Heb. 5:1)
Are priests even needed anymore? To someone with a materialistic worldview, this might sound like a fair question. After all, science and technology have solved countless problems and radically changed our way of life. But for anyone who acknowledges the spiritual side of humanity, the question sounds out of touch.
"He is able to deal patiently with the ignorant and erring, for he himself is beset by weakness and so, for this reason, must make sin offerings for himself as well as for the people." (Heb. 5:2-3)
Indeed, the need for priests is never more apparent than when we take a serious look at the many spiritual defects in our individuals, families and societies. The effects of sin roil all around us, and no amount of artificial intelligence or other human achievements can heal our wounds; only the blood of Jesus poured out for us on the cross and on the altar can bring us the grace we need. But we need priests to stand at the altar to bring this salvation into the world!
"No one takes this honor upon himself but only when called by God, just as Aaron was." (Heb. 5:4)
In today's world, as in every age, God is calling men to serve his Church as spiritual fathers––leaders of his people and dispensers of spiritual goods. Is He calling you?
